Clubs (Wraparound Care)

Wraparound care is an important part of our offer for parents. Where families need the support of childcare, we will make sure that the care offered engages children and gives them opportunities to continue learning, be active and have a chance to rest!

Our breakfast and after school clubs are run in partnership with Aktiva, a reputable provider of after school care and holiday clubs. During breakfast club, children will be helped to get ready for the school day and will be provided with a healthy breakfast. Breakfast club runs from 7.30am and children will be escorted to their classrooms at 8.50am.

During after school care sessions, children are able to use their time to complete homework activities, continue learning through play and have some ‘downtime.’ A healthy snack is provided to keep them going until they get home!

To book either breakfast or afterschool club, please contact the Aktiva office on 02035518909, or use this link.

At John Locke Academy we offer a variety of after school clubs for children in year 1 and above. Some are run by external organisations, some are run by parents and some will be run by members of staff.

As part of our 'Healthy Body' offer, many of our clubs give children the opportunity to be active - including multi sports skills, football, judo, street dance. We also offer a range of other activities at different times of the year, including French, Spanish, recorders and gardening.

Parents are able to book the clubs in advance, either directly with the provider using the information on the right or through the main office.

Clubs do not run in the first and last weeks of term.  Please make a note of the start and end dates when booking a club.

Uniform

We are proud of our John Locke Academy uniform. It helps to create the school identity, a sense of community and unity.

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2

Pupils will wear a royal blue sweatshirt with the school logo; a white polo shirt; grey trousers or skirt. In the summer, grey shorts or light blue checked summer dresses may be worn.

Key Stage 2 (years 3, 4, 5 and 6)

Pupils may wear a John Locke Academy tie, a royal blue v-neck jumper or cardigan with the school logo, white shirt and grey trousers or skirt.  In the summer, grey shorts or light blue checked summer dresses may be worn.

Shoes

Shoes should be comfortable and black. Trainers may be worn for going outdoors. Socks should be black, grey, blue or white; tights should be grey or dark blue.

Nursery

Nursery children will not be required to wear a uniform. We do recommend that they wear loose clothing that can be washed easily. Trainers are the best form of footwear for nursery children.

PE kit

PE lessons are introduced during reception and continue as part of the national curriculum throughout the rest of their primary education. Children will require the following for PE:

Learning doesn’t stop because of the weather and we have designed outdoor spaces that children can use whatever the weather is. We would ask that all children in nursery, reception and year 1 have a pair of wellies that they keep in school. This will make sure that children will not be stuck inside during our notorious British winters – or spring, autumn and summer!

Ordering Uniform

Parents may order uniform items such as school jumpers and bookbags directly from Price Buckland our uniform supplier.  Many of our uniform items are available from local supermarkets.

Pre-loved Uniform

A selection of second-hand uniform is always available via the school office and pre-loved uniform sales are held termly and advertised on our newsletters.
